Things to Do In Clemson, South Carolina
The City of Clemson is considered one of the prettiest in South Carolina, and for good reason. It is located at the foothills of the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains and is home to the beautiful Lake Hartwell. Whether you are taking in a football game at Clemson or looking for some rest and relaxation on the lake, there is plenty to do here in Clemson. Here are some of my favorites!
Plan the perfect accommodations.
There are many hotels to choose from that accommodate all budgets. We have been many times, and we always stay at The Abernathy. It has never disappointed, and the location is spot on. If you are heading to Death Valley to see a game, you can easily walk, and you will be right across the street from the tailgating sea of orange. Want to head out to dinner or to town? No problem, you can easily walk from this prime spot.
The rooms are clean and well equipped, with a kitchen, coffee maker, kitchen table, couch, and a super cozy king bed. If you need breakfast, you can grab it in the lounge or have a glass of wine after a long day at Hartwell Lake.
Take in a Game
Clemson fans take game day very seriously, so plan accordingly. If you want to get a coveted seat inside “Death Valley,” you will have to plan well in advance. If you find them to be sold out, you can always try your luck with Stub Hub.
Plan to don your orange gear and head to the tailgates across from The Abernathy or go to a local bar like Esso. You are sure to see some spirited fans cheering on their beloved Tigers. The best part of the game is the thrilling entrance the football team makes when they arrive by bus at the top of The Hill and charge into the stadium while the band plays “Tiger Rag.”
Head Outdoors
The 50,000-acre Lake Hartwell offers activities for all sorts of outdoor enthusiasts. Plan to hit the lake early for boating, fishing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, or swimming. If you prefer a bit of shade, the Experimental Forest has 105 miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, picnic spots, and launch areas for canoes and kayaks. There are plenty of things to do outdoors in Clemson.
Hit the Local Eateries
There is no shortage of fun spots to grab a quick lunch or a delicious dinner. College Avenue is the main street that runs through towns and is home to many restaurants, bars, and shops. Pixie and Bill’s is an excellent spot for a nice dinner out with the family if you are craving prime rib and seafood. Evolve Kitchen and Table, also on College Avenue, has the best Crispy Brussels appetizer, which you do not want to miss.
The Esso Club is a trendy spot, so plan to wait in line. It is close to campus and always packed with fans in orange and purple. It has a full bar and serves delicious Southern food like fried pickle strips and BBQ sandwiches.
