Copenhagen Instagram Spots

1. Nyhavn

It would be impossible to create a list of the most Instagrammable spots in Copenhagen without including Nyhavn. The colored houses along the canal are the most photographed location in the whole city! And it’s clear to see why.

Nyhavn creates the most stunning pics imaginable. Every photo looks like a stock photo, the houses are spectacular.

Visiting Nyhavn at different points in the day creates different atmospheres and allows each photo to be unique.

When it comes to taking a picture for Instagram, there are lots of opportunities to pose for a few minutes, as you can stand on one side of the canal and have the colored houses in the background.

You are guaranteed to get a nice photo here! So if you are looking for somewhere to take a new profile picture, head to Nyhavn.

2. Tivoli Gardens

Not only is Tivoli Gardens incredibly fun to visit, and a reason why Copenhagen is worth visiting, but it also provides endless opportunities to take some pics for the ‘gram.

Every direction you look in Tivoli Gardens is photographable. Aside from the rides and attractions, the decorations and aesthetics are hard to beat.

The Tivoli Lake, in particular, is extraordinary. Snapping a picture of the lake with the Oriental Temple in the background can only be described as, wow.

Like Nyhavn, the time of day completely dictates the vibe of your photos. There’s no bad time to visit either, all the pictures are magical.

3. The Little Mermaid

A third Copenhagen Instagram spot is the Little Mermaid statue in the harbor of Copenhagen. The statue attracts thousands of visitors each day, and it’s completely free to see which is good news if you are visiting Copenhagen on a budget

The statue makes for some really unique pictures, and you can pose beside the mermaid for pictures, or, take the more full-on approach, and get up close for a selfie with the statue.

Whichever option you choose, you’ll get some photos that are so different to any others you’ll get in Copenhagen – but still amazing photos nonetheless.

4. Rosenborg Castle

Copenhagen’s Rosenborg Castle is one of the most picturesque castles anywhere in the world.

The beautiful green roof combined with the orange-red brickwork creates a beautiful look.

There are lots of good opportunities to take a picture for Instagram, as you can walk right around the castle and take a photo from any angle.

The surrounding gardens also make for some good pictures. If you can get a photo with some of the shrubbery or greenery in the foreground with the castle in the background, you are in for a winner.

5. Christiania

Freetown Christiania is Copenhagen’s rebellious neighborhood where the laws are slightly different.

The hippie atmosphere has managed to get many things legalized in Christiania which are illegal in the rest of Copenhagen. As you can imagine, there are lots of interesting things to see within the neighborhood’s boundaries.

Whether it’s the bright and vibrant colors on all of the walls, or the wooden sign marking the beginning of Freetown Christiania, you can sure get some cracking pictures in this part of Copenhagen.

Make sure you respect the locals who live here though, there are some areas of the neighborhood where you are not allowed to take photos, and there are signs up stating this when this is the case.

6. Christiansborg Palace

The Parliament of Denmark is found in Christiansborg Palace, which also happens to be one of the best Copenhagen Instagram spots.

Christiansborg is an incredible building, which provides the opportunity to get some amazing photos. There are also so many different spots and angles to choose from, meaning that you can usually find a spot where there won’t be anyone in the background of your photos. Even better, right?

You can also go up Christiansborg Tower (for free- which is a huge bonus as Copenhagen is expensive) and get a wonderful view over Copenhagen. This is a bonus Instagrammable opportunity in Copenhagen.

7. Old Palm House, Botanical Gardens

Botanical Gardens anywhere in the world always provide the opportunity to take some pretty photos. Flowers are pretty so it’s really easy to get nice pics with them surrounding you.

But what’s unique about Copenhagen’s Botanical Gardens is the Old Palm House. The tropical house has warm temperatures allowing for palm trees to grow, and the trees themselves are totally Instagrammable.

But what’s even more unique, and even more Instagrammable, is the stunning white spiral staircase found inside the Old Palm House. It’s right in the heart of the palm leaves and trees and will leave you with photos looking like you visited somewhere tropical.

8. Frederik’s Church

One of the most attractive buildings in Copenhagen, and therefore one of the best Copenhagen Instagram spots is Frederik’s Church. The church can be seen from all over the city, especially if you take a canal tour.

The dome of Frederik’s Church is a gorgeous green color which compliments the white of the building’s design.

You can easily stand in the street opposite the church face and get some really nice photos here.

9. Windmill at Kastellet

A cute option for taking pictures in Copenhagen is at the windmill at Kastellet. People often associate Scandinavia with windmills, but finding one in Copenhagen is harder than you may think.

Luckily, there’s a really quaint and picturesque windmill at Kastellet, which is only a few minutes walk away from the Little Mermaid statue mentioned before.

The windmill is in the middle of a grass field which means you can find the perfect angle to take your pictures.

10. Canals at night

Last but by no means least of these Copenhagen Instagram spots is simply any canal, at nighttime.

Copenhagen is pretty during the day, but at night time the canals are exceptionally pleasing to look at.

With the lights on the canal boats illuminating and the lights of the streetlights shining down onto the canal, the atmosphere is really cosy and makes for some of the best photos anywhere in Copenhagen.

Getting photos here at nighttime would be a nice contrast with daytime photos to add to an Instagram carousel-style post.
