Summer is officially here, and with it comes the call of adventure. It’s time to take off on those long-awaited road trips. Load up the car with snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray– it’s Texas, you’ll need it. You can head in any direction, just a short drive from Austin, located in the heart of Texas. 

As a native Texan who has lived in Austin for over twenty years, I have personally visited all these spots. I can attest to how great they genuinely are, and I’m excited to share these experiences with you. They’re not just for families, either. Grab your girlfriends, partners, or friends and head North, East, South, and West to some cool destinations. 

1. Hamilton Pool

Hamilton Pool is a breathtaking natural pool located just outside of Austin. It’s known for its crystal-clear waters and scenic waterfall. To help preserve this unique site, visitors must now reserve a spot in advance. 

The pool is surrounded by limestone cliffs and lush vegetation, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and photographers. To ensure you have a smooth visit, booking your reservation ahead of time is essential. Reservations cost $11 online, and an additional $15 per vehicle fee must be paid in cash upon arrival.

2. Fredericksburg

The town of Fredericksburg, less than two hours west of Austin, offers some of the best scenery in the Texas Hill Country.
